Ethel Ingeborg Johnson, 93, Monticello, and formerly of Crystal, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Shepherd of Grace Senior Community of Becker.
Funeral service will be Thursday, June 7, 11 a.m., at Riverside Church, 20314 County Road 14 NW, Big Lake. Pastor Doug Johnson and Pastor Bill Arant will officiate. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m., at Svea Hill Cemetery of Orrock Township. Visitation was Wednesday, June 6, 5-8 p.m., with a prayer service, 7 p.m., at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday.
Ethel was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Minneapolis, to Anton and Anna Anderson, both immigrants from Sweden. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Central High School of South Minneapolis in 1937. She worked at General Mills, before her marriage to Bernard C. Johnson on March 10, 1945 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Crystal for 21 years before moving to Monticello in 1967.
Ethel was an active part of her husband’s construction business and served as bookkeeper, secretary, and interior decorator. She and Bernie were active at Riverside Church since 1967.
Ethel is survived by her five children, Lynn (Bob) Dawson, Beverly (Ron) Carlson, Gloria (Warren) Olson, all of Big Lake; Pastor Doug (Sally) Johnson of Buttermilk, Kan.; Grace (Harry) Engstrom, of Arlington, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother Stanley Anderson; and sisters, Alice Anderson and Ruth Barnum.
