This isn’t your father’s Lions Club.
At the very least, this isn’t your father’s Lions Club’s typical fund-raising event.
But then again, depending on the age of the person reading this, maybe this in fact is your father’s Lions Club we’re talking about.
Regardless, the Monticello Lions Club has stepped out rather progressively from the type of event the 95-year-old service organization traditionally uses to raise money to benefit so many across the community.
While beer isn’t exactly a new product at a Lions Club fund-raiser, the Monticello Lions Club will introduce craft beers, or microbrewed beers, to its next event and possibly a few local palates when it unveils what it hopes becomes the latest Monticello summer tradition, right alongside Riverfest and Walk ‘N’ Roll.
Monticello Lions Brewfest will debut Aug. 18.
The event, from 3-7 p.m., will feature more than 100 flavors of craft beers from numerous brewers, bluegrass music from Blue Hazard Band and food for purchase from a variety of vendors including Von Hanson’s Meats, The Station Bar & Grill, Cornerstone Caf/ & Catering, River City Extreme, Buffalo Wild Wings and Primo Pizza, all along the banks of the Mississippi at West Bridge Park.
