Legion baseball pounds Rockford

The Monticello Legion team picked up a blowout victory last week, clobbering Rockford 20-2. Unfortunately, the bats didn’t carry over to this week as they dropped a 5-4 decision on Monday night.
Against Rockford, Spencer Host earned the win, throwing five scoreless innings, while striking out eight batters.
At the plate, almost everyone did a little damage. Hayden Laimer led the way at the top of the order as he not only recorded three hits, but scored three runs and knocked in four more.
Jake Schmitz, Jakob Kounkel and Sam Taufen each added three hits for Monticello as the road team racked up 19 hits on their way to 20 runs.
Monday, Monticello’s comeback fell just short as they lost 5-4 to Delano.
Monti, playing at home, was done in by errors, as all five of the visitor’s runs were unearned.
Jake Frederick took the loss on the mound for Monti as he gave up all five unearned runs for Monti in six innings pitched. Frederick was dinged around for nine hits in the game. Kounkel threw three innings of scoreless relief for the Magic who cut the lead from 5-0 to 5-4, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
