Jon M. Smith, 48, Big Lake
Jon Michael Smith, 48, Big Lake, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at his home in Big Lake.
Funeral service was Monday, July 2, 11 a.m., at River of Life Church, 21695 Elk Lake Road, Elk River. Visitation was Sunday, July 1, 3-7 p.m., at the church.
Jon was born in Staples, Minn. on April 30, 1964, the son of Garvin Smith and Harriet Kimber. He grew up on a dairy farm in Bertha, Minn., and graduated from Bertha High School in 1982.
Jon attended Alexandria Community College in the accounting program, graduating in 1984, where he and Krista became friends. He has worked at Electro Industries of Monticello, Minn., at various positions, since March 1986, most recently as president of the company. For the past three months Jon has been treated for amyloidosis.
He is survived by his wife; whom he married on May 22, 1999; and their four children Ella and Isaac Smith of Big Lake; Brittany (Stefan) Lindahl of Roseville, Minn.; and Tyler Zillmer (Amy Olson, fiancee). He is also survived by his parents; brother Kent (Dorothy) of Wadena, Minn.; sister Kris (Greg) Anderson of Bertha.
Jon loved the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and served Him faithfully in his leadership roles at home where he served as a model for a loving husband and the father of a blended family, at River of Life in Elk River in many capacities including Chairman of the Overseer Board, and at Electro Industries.
Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
