Legion wins again

For a couple of years, scoring runs has been a bit of an issue for the Magic varsity baseball team.
But this year’s legion baseball team is breaking out of that run-scoring slump in a big way.
This week, they continued their offensive ways in a 13 to 6 victory over Mound on Thursday.
The Magic fell behind 1-0, and 3-2 early in the game, but playing at home, they used three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. They would eventually stretch the lead out to 10-3 after seven innings, before each team added three in the eighth frame for the final tally.
Offensively, Monticello was led by Jakob Kounkel, who contributed four of the home team’s fifteen hits on the night. Kounkel also scored a run and added two RBIs.
Jake Schmitz added two hits, while nine other Magic players recorded one.
Sam Taufen led the team with three RBIs.
Spencer Host picked up the win, throwing seven innings while allowing just three runs.
