Laverne Irene Scherr, 87, Clearwater, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Sterling Park Health Care Center of Waite Park. Visitation will be Saturday, July 21, 1-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. There will be a private interment.
Laverne was born on Sept. 3, 1924, in Buffalo, to William and Hazel (Fadden) Holland and she grew up in the Buffalo, Minn. area. She married Clarence Scherr in 1942, and the couple lived on a farm near Monticello where they raised their eleven children. Laverne worked as a school aide and a waitress. Later, she worked as a school bus driver for Hoglund Bus Co. until her retirement. She moved to Clearwater, Minn. where she enjoyed spending time with her large family playing cards, games and just visiting.
She is survived by her children, Lois Ross, Darlene Stuve, Judy (Leo) Lally, Billie (Vicky) Scherr, Shirley (Willie) Zachman, Phyllis (Mike) Stimpson, Lorri Scherr, Jeff (Terri) Scherr, Bruce Scherr, Jesse Scherr; 37 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six brothers; one sister; daughter Cheryl Espelund; and grandsons, John Ross and Cory Blesi. Laverne was a very loving mother and grandmother and her kind nurturing way will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
