Great River libraries to issue new cards

Persuade a friend to get a Great River Regional Library card this September and you could win an Apple iPad.
September is national Library Card Sign-up Month. Throughout the month, new cardholders and cardholders who refer them into the library system will qualify for the iPad drawing. GRRL provides services in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright counties.
“We provide a service that is modern, efficient, easy to use, and useful to people of all ages,” said Karen Pundsack, patron services coordinator. “We’re hoping the iPad drawing will encourage new people to join the system so they learn how the library can add value in their lives.”
Library cards are provided free of charge. Services are funded through county, state and federal taxes. To receive a card and qualify for the promotion, adults need to complete an application form (with referral information if applicable) and provide a photo ID and proof of their current address. Children under 17 do not need a photo ID. The card is good at all 32 GRRL locations, which include branches in Monticello, at 200 W. Sixth St.; in Big Lake, at 790 Minnesota Ave.; and Buffalo, at 18 N.W. Lake Blvd.
GRRL owns more than 950,000 items including books, magazines, DVDs, music CDs and audio books. GRRL keeps a digital library at its website,, offering eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Many library “power users” visit every week or even more often, borrowing books, music, movies and magazines. “Everybody needs information,” Pundsack said. “If you are planning a vacation, planting a garden, or want to learn about personal finance, the library has resources you can use.”
The iPad prize is funded by a donation from the St. Cloud Friends of the Library.
