Owen Bakken, 83, Monticello
Owen Palmer Bakken, 83, Monticello died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at the Park View Care Center of Buffalo.
Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 5, 5-8 p.m., at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday. Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 6, 11 a.m., at Community United Methodist Church, 9225 Jason Avenue NE, Monticello. Rev. Rhodel Jacobson will officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery of Monticello.
Owen was born May 14, 1929 in Paynesville, Minn., to Olaf A. and Pearl Beatrice (Schultz) Bakken. He moved with his family to Monticello as an infant and lived there the rest of his life. He grew up in Monticello and graduated from Monticello High School. He then served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s. On Nov. 2, 1963 he married Phyllis Shaw at St. Olaf Church in Minneapolis.
Owen farmed and also worked for Hoglund Bus Company as a driver for over 31 years, where he enjoyed driving the marching band and sports teams to their activities. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Owen is survived by his wife; son Bruce; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Carol Rahn.
