The Magic earned the fourth seed in Section 5A after finishing the year with wins in six of their last seven matches.
In the opening round of section play, Monticello dispatched Minneapolis Patrick Henry with ease, winning 9-0 Tuesday afternoon.
The Magic now move into the quarterfinals where they’ll take on Legacy Christian Academy, the fifth seed in the tournament. If the Magic can win that Saturday matchup (at Monticello High School at 11 a.m.) they’ll take on top-seeded Prairie Seeds Academy Tuesday evening at Park Center.
After losing to Cambridge in four sets last Thursday, Monticello struggled to regain momentum over the course of a two-day tournament at St. Michael-Albertville. The Magic picked up two wins at the tournament, but lost three, as they were not able to put together back-to-back wins.
Tuesday, Monticello bounced back with a convincing win over Rogers, 3-0. That win moves the Magic to 11-11 overall, and 3-5 in conference. Currently, Monticello is the top rated team in Section 8AAA South.
The Magic host Buffalo tonight, their last regular season home game.
Girls Cross Country
For the first time in nearly two years, the Magic cross country team walked away from a meet without a win this weekend. Monticello placed third at the Alexandria Invitiational, finishing behind Chanhassen and Chaska. Mariah Betzler and Amber Seidenkranz led the Magic with top ten finishes.
