Anderson wins new District 29 seat, will return as senator

Rep. Bruce Anderson, a Republican from Buffalo Township who has served as a state representative in the House since 1994, will be returning to St. Paul as a state senator.
Anderson’s new legislative territory covers Monticello, Buffalo, Rockford, Delano, Montrose, Waverly, Howard Lake, Annandale, Maple Lake, South Haven and surrounding townships. The new District 29 seat replaces the District 19 seat being vacated by Republican Amy Koch of Buffalo, who did not seek re-election this year. DFL candidate and Monticello resident Brian Doran opposed Anderson. “The numbers I received in Annandale surprised me,” Anderson said late Tuesday night from his campaign headquarters at Huikko’s Bowling & Entertainment Center in Buffalo.
“You are always hoping you’ve done well in the areas that are brand new to the district. Those areas can be somewhat iffy.”  Anderson said he was “pleasantly surprised” by the support from his old district, in particular Monticello, Monticello Township, Buffalo and Buffalo Township, Silver Creek and surrounding areas. “I appreciate voters’ willingness to support me,” he said. “I’m looking forward to next year.”
