John Raymond Narog, 83, Minneapolis, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Holy Cross, 17th Ave. NE & University Ave., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Rosary will begin at 9:40 a.m. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
John grew up in northeast Minneapolis and retired in Monticello. He served in U.S. Army – Korea (1950-1953), and was active in the Monticello/Big Lake VFW. John retired from the Minneapolis Post Office, where he started as one of the “Railway Mail Service” carriers, traveling across the country on the railroad sorting and delivering mail to platform stops along the routes. Then, when the rail trains were disbanded, he was promoted to Postal Safety Inspector. The “tall one” was proud of his 6’4 height.
He is survived by sisters, Sister Mary David OSF, Kasimira Sikora; and loving companion, Betty Schoon.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jula Narog; brother Frank (Ethel), sisters, Rose (Larry) Anderson, Marian (Ed) Backus, and Jay (Rodell) Swaggert.
