New River Board of Directors approves affliation memorandum

The New River Medical Center Board of Directors approved an affiliation-related memorandum of understanding (MOU) Thursday night with St. Cloud-based CentraCare Health System. The action by board members representing the Monticell0-Big Lake Community Hospital District was approved on a 5-2 vote near the end of a three-hour meeting that featured a legal review of affiliation-related documents. Directors Richard Helms, representing Big Lake Township, and Rob VanDenBerg, representing Otsego, voted against the resolution to approve the MOU, which also included management and confidentiality agreements. Board member Linda Doerr abstained from Thursday’s night’s vote. Doerr is employed by CentraCare as its vice president for senior services at St. Cloud Hospital and serves as CEO of St. Benedict’s Senior Community. See next week’s Monticello Times for a recap of the Dec. 13 New River Medical Center meeting and what’s ahead in the affiliation process.
