Betty J. Parham, 83, Monticello
Betty Jeanne Parham, 83, Monticello, Minn., and formerly of Avoca, Iowa, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the New River Medical Center of Monticello.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday Jan. 9, 11 a.m., at the Community United Methodist Church, 9225 Jason Avenue N.E., Monticello. Rev. Rhodel Jacobson officiated. Another memorial service will be held on Friday Jan. 11, at the Community United Methodist Church of Hancock, Iowa. Interment will be at Oak Hills Cemetery of Hancock.
Betty was born May 31, 1929 in Avoca, Iowa, to Arnold and Laura (Pritchard) Ackart. She grew up in Iowa and graduated from Avoca High School.
She married Thomas Parham, Jr. on April 27, 1947 in Avoca. She lived in Mason City, Iowa, Spencer, Iowa, Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Atlantic, Iowa.
She then lived in Colorado for a time before moving to Monticello in July of 2000.
She worked as a telephone operator, waitress and in grocery stores most of her life.
Betty is survived by children, Tom (Georgia) Parham, Ames, Iowa; Susan (Tim) Wohlsdorf, Monticello; Bob (Janice) Parham of Duluth, Minn.; Kelly (Debbie) Parham, Colorado Springs, Colo; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren; brother Levi (Janice) Ackart, Greene, Iowa; sister, Karen (Gary) Parker, Waukee, Iowa.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son Roger Parham; brothers, James, Frances, and Harold; and sisters, Arlene, Dorothy and Mary.
Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
