Monticello beat Big Lake 70-40 in their only game this past week. The Magic led 41-17 at the half as they cruised to the conference victory. Grace Sawatzke led the Magic with 18 points and six assists, while Gabby Laimer added 11 points and Christine Lui scored ten points and dished out four assists.
The Magic play host to conference leaders STMA tonight at 7:15.
The Magic scored 135.875 points to cruise past Rockford and Princeton at a triangular meet last week. Rockford, in second place, was 14.5 points behind Monticello.
Beth Bursch led the Magic, earning first place in Vault (8.78), Bars (8.175) and All Around (34.23).
Noelle Berg earned a first on the beam (8.63) and second in all-around (34.13), while Gabbie Kittel finished first in floor.
The Magic host sections this Saturday at noon at Monticello High School.
The Magic fell twice this week, dropping a high scoring affair, 80-71 at Rogers, before falling at home to Buffalo Tuesday night, 66-54.
Hayden Laimer poured in a career-high 28 points in the loss to Rogers, while Will Bauman and Brody Grantz added 16 and 15 respectively.
The Magic travel to Orono Thursday night, before heading to Big Lake Saturday for a conference game beginning at 7:15 p.m.
The Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake Moose lost to Rogers 4-1 Saturday, and fell in a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker at St. Michael-Albertville Tuesday night.
Against STMA, the Moose trailed 2-0 before Spencer Nelson got them on the board late in the second period. In the third period, with just two minutes to go in the game, Colton Jones found the back of the net to force overtime.
But the Knights scored two minutes into overtime to earn the win and move into a three-way tie for second place in the Misssissippi 8.
The Moose begin section play this Saturday by hosting Becker-Big Lake at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to take on second-seeded Brainerd in the quarterfinal round Tuesday.
