The Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake hockey season came to an end Tuesday night with a 4-1 loss to Brainerd in the section quarterfinals.
The Moose got to the quarterfinals with a 7-1 victory over Big Lake/Becker. Reese Carstens recorded two goals and an assist, Colton Jones added two goals, and Drew Brockman scored one goal and dished out two assists in the Moose victory.
Birk Olson scored the lone Magic goal Tuesday night, while Darien Jones made 41 saves in defeat.
Monticello finished fifth, with 135.9 points, as their season came to an end at the Section 7A meet this Saturday. Beth Bursch was Monticello’s highest individual finisher. She was seventh on the beam (9.0) and tenth on bars (8.05) and in all-around (34.83).
The Magic dropped two close ones last week, falling 53-49 to Orono Thursday and 60-56 to Big Lake Saturday.
Hayden Laimer led the Magic with 13 points in the defeat against Orono.
Monticello led both contests at halftime, but was unable to close the door in the second half.
The Magic host St. Michael-Albertville at 7:15 tonight.
