MHS grad receives tennis award

Katie Kotschevar, a 2010 Monticello High School graduate, was selected Monday as the women’s tennis player of the week in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Kotschevar, a junior at St. Cloud State, posted a 3-0 record in singles play (with two victories coming at No. 1 singles) and added a 3-0 record while playing No. 1 doubles during the last week. Her victories helped give the Huskies a pair of important conference victories.
Kotschevar’s big week started with a straight sets (6-3, 6-3) win over Minnesota State’s Kelly Lechowski. The junior racked up another convincing win (6-0, 6-1) against Holly Roepke of Minnesota Crookston, before rolling to her third straight singles victory (6-0, 6-3) over Rachel Hussey from Sioux Falls.
She doubled up on her individual feat by pairing with Cassandra Brown to earn three more victories in team play.
The doubles duo defeated Minnesota State 8-6, Minnesota Crookston 8-1, and cruised past Sioux Falls, 8-2.
With the big week, Kotschevar propelled her overall record to 14-8 in singles play this season and 13-6 at No. 1 doubles along with Brown.
The Huskies are 15-9 overall, and are 9-1 in NSIC play this season.
