Ellen Julia Rosenthal, 88, Monticello, and formerly of Columbia Heights, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at St. Benedict’s Senior Community of Monticello.
Visitation will be Thursday evening April 25, 4-8 p.m., at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 East 7th Street, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 26, 10:30 a.m., at St. Henry Catholic Church. Fr. Tony VanderLoop will be officiating. There will be a private interment.
Ellen was born in Oak Park, Minn. on Dec. 9, 1924, to William and Mary (Thering) Brennan. She attended school in Foley and Milaca. Following high school, she attended nursing school at St. Gabriel’s of Little Falls and became a registered nurse. She then worked at a visitors’ nursing program in Manhattan, N.Y. serving elderly immigrants in 1945. She continued her career as an RN working at Unity Hospital of Fridley for many years. Her faith, her family, and traveling the world were the most important aspects of Ellen’s life.
Ellen is survived by her children, James Rosenthal, Jr., Chaska; Janet (Wayne) Margotto, Andover; Jerry (Donna) Rosenthal, Roseville; Judith (Jeffrey) Roers, Monticello; JoAnn (Ron) Aho, Maple Grove; Jay (Teri) Rosenthal, Blaine;  14 grandchildren;  one great-granddaughter;  sisters, Grace Klisch, Claire Brenden, Ramona Dougherty;  and brother Major Robert Brennan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo, Walter, John, William, Basil and Patrick;  and her sister Mae.
Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
