Council members have ratified a two-year labor agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49.
City leaders unanimously approved the 2013-2015 contract Monday as a consent agenda item.
Mayor Clint Herbst and Councilmember Glen Posusta, acting as members of the city’s personnel committee and Public Works Director Bob Paschke met with the union’s representatives and stewards once last month to negotiate the contract, Human Resources Manager Tracy Ergen reported in a memo.
A Grade 9 equipment mechanic/operator currently makes $18.67 an hour on Step 1 of the city’s pay equity scale and $24.27 on Step 8. A Grade 10 shop mechanic/operator and a Grade 10 operator/mechanic foreman makes $19.89 an hour on Step 1 and $25.86 on Step 8.
The only change negotiated in the contract was adding a “step increases will be awarded based on performance” statement to the salary schedule.
