Former Monticello resident wins world championship woodcarving honor

A former Monticello resident and area art educator has received a world championship honor for a unique commissioned sculpture of a hand-carved woodcock.
Brian Grott took Second Place in the Shorebirds and Wading Birds “Best in Category” at the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition in Ocean City, Md.
Another Monticello resident and woodcock enthusiast, Randy Havel, played a key role in commissioning the bird. Grott said the Ward World Championship judges really liked his bird’s presentation on a Walnut base with oak leaves.
