Favorable weather, volunteers help make Riverfest 2013 a success

Highly favorable weather was a factor in helping the 37th annual edition of Monticello’s summer celebration enter the books as an all-around success.
Riverfest Committee members were asked earlier this week for recaps.
Several non-profit organizations, namely the Monticello Lions, Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, join forces with dedicated community members to arrange Riverfest’s entertaining Thursday through Sunday lineup.
“We had a good mix, from the car show and family picnic Thursday at Pioneer Park to the talent show and fireworks at Monticello High School Friday night, the Saturday Fun Run and bean bag tournament at West Bridge Park,” said Wes Olson, longtime Riverfest Committee member. Throw in the annual street dance Saturday night at the Monticello Community Center, Sunday’s parade and duck race on the river, Riverdogs and a chicken dinner and royalty coronation in Ellison Park and Riverfest 2013 was complete.
