Monticello Middle School garden tour features guru visit

Square-foot gardening innovator Mel Bartholomew visited Monticello Monday night and the Monticello Middle School gardens, which were built in May as a joint venture between the school’s eighth-grade students and the Monticello Home Depot. Square-foot gardening is a method of planting not in rows but in a four-foot square, divided by a grid into 16, one-foot squares. A garden showcase at the home of Robbie and Karen Smith, followed Bartholomew’s presentation. Smith teaches Family and Consumer Science classes at the school and worked with students to develop the gardens.
