Monticello Middle School garden tour features guru visit

Square-foot gardening innovator Mel Bartholomew visited Monticello Monday night and the Monticello Middle School gardens, which were built in May as a joint venture between the school’s eighth-grade students and the Monticello Home Depot. Square-foot gardening is a method of planting not in rows but in a four-foot square, divided by a grid into 16, one-foot squares. A garden showcase at the home of Robbie and Karen Smith,followed Bartholomew’s presentation. Smith teaches Family and Consumer Science classes at the school and worked with students to develop the gardens.
