The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, along with other state and county agencies, will respond to a simulated Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant emergency Tuesday.
The July 23 exercise will test the capabilities of all responsible agencies to take decisive action in the event of an emergency at the Monticello-based nuclear generating plant.
Residents in areas near the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant should not be alarmed by emergency responders carrying out their field duties during the day-long exercise.
Field activities will take place in proximity to the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in Sherburne County and Wright County.
The following federal, state and local agencies will participate in this exercise:
Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management; Xcel Energy, operators of the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant; other Minnesota state agencies, including the Minnesota Departments of Agriculture, Health, Human Services, Natural Resources and Transportation; Sherburne and Wright counties and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Officials from DHS will be evaluating the participating responders during the exercise.
