No matter the outcome, there was going to be sadness for the Monticello River Eagles U19 girls soccer team following their state championship game last Wednesday night.
After all, it would be the final time they all played together, after the mix-and-match group consisting of girls from 17 to 19 years old from Monticello, Becker and Big Lake has spent five years growing together under the tutelage of coach Arnold Changamire.
They decided they better mix some joy in with the sadness.
The River Eagles controlled play against Centennial, beating their league rival 3-1 to earn their second straight Minnesota Youth Soccer Association CII state championship, this time at the U19 level.
