School safety patrol training starts with Legionville sendoff

Monticello elementary and middle school safety patrols help their classmates make thousands of trips across busy city streets and intersections each year. Local patrol participants make a special journey in early August each year to the Legionville School Safety Patrol Training Center just outside of Brainerd. Monticello is the only school district in the state that sends all of its patrols to the popular summer camp for training. Most schools only send captains. On Sunday, Aug. 4, school patrol members were given their traditional sendoff, which included a T-Shirt and $10 in spending money provided by Monticello American Legion members. Legionville President Wayne Gilbertson said 800 to 900 campers annually attend Legionville.
