Craft beer connoisseurs and other onlookers can learn about home brewing by visiting the River City Brewers display at Saturday’s Brewfest.
The club will dispense information, not beer samples, during the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. event, said membership and public relations representative Lynne Fleming. “We welcome anyone to attend regardless of their home brewing experience,” Fleming said. “We have members who have never made their own brews to those with several years of experience. Our members have received regional awards. Our club enjoys sharing information.”
Club President Kevin Meinstma said River City Brewers has its genesis as a “cookie exchange for guys” that he put together in 2009. The club was officially registered with the state in May 2010. “I invited a dozen homebrewers to my home in November to exchange home-brewed beer,” Meinstma said. “Over half of the people at that exchange became charter members”
Participating in the second annual Monticello Lions Brewfest is a public relations effort that helps get the word out that the club exists, Fleming said.
