Xcel Energy has named Karen Fili site vice president at Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
“During her more than 27 years in the nuclear industry, Karen has demonstrated strong leadership and developed the knowledge and skills needed to oversee nuclear plant operations,” stated Tim O’Connor, senior vice president and chief nuclear officer at Xcel Energy, in a news release issued Tuesday morning.
O’Connor stated Fili, who joined Xcel Energy in 2011 as vice president for nuclear capital projects, previously held leadership positions at Entergy and FirstEnergy in maintenance, operations, oversight, project management, engineering and business services.
Fili succeeds Mark Schimmel, a 35-year nuclear industry veteran who has been named to lead special projects at Xcel Energy’s nuclear fleet headquarters in Minneapolis.
Schimmel joined Xcel Energy in 2008 and was site vice president at Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant from August 2009 to May 2012, when he moved to the site vice president post at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
