The Monticello Fire Department’s Sept. 14 fall open house will feature a continuous kitchen fire demonstration and an opportunity to meet with local firefighters.
“We’ll be doing demonstrations throughout the morning and afternoon instead of just one,” said Fire Chief Steve Joerg. ”We want to really nail the point home about fire prevention and the fact that cooking fires are the No. 1 cause of most structural fires that occur around the state.”
The Saturday, Sept. 14, open house is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire station located 505 Walnut St.
“We’ll do a car extraction and have our equipment on display and have plastic firefighter helmets for the kids,” Joerg said.
Monticello Fire Department personnel will visit local schools during Fire Prevention Week tours in October.
