Gordon John DeMars, 84, Monticello passed away Saturday, Sept. 28,2013, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of St. Cloud. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 1,from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. , at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E. Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 E. Seventh St., Monticello. The Rev. Tony VanderLoop will officiate. Private interment will be at St. Henry Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Gordon was born on May 7, 1929 in Albertville, Minn. to Emil and Cecilia (Fissette) DeMars. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned and farmed near Albertville most of his life. He enjoyed traveling and in retirement spent winters in Texas. Gordon was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Monticello American Legion.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; children Nancy (Doug) Barthel, Patricia (Kevin) Berthiaume, Donna Arnold (Bob LaFave), and Duane (Laurie) Poach, all of Monticello; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings Beatrice May,, Doris DesMarais, LaVerna VanKeuren, Corrine Dehmer, Leon DeMars, Leona DeMars, Edna Kostuch, Richard DeMars; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepson Steve Poach; and siblings Vivian Wilson and Edmund DeMars.
