The funeral service for Gary Kurrasch was held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton. Pastor Kathleen Soldwisch officiated at the service. Congregational hymns were sung and those in attendance served as the Casketbearers. Interment was at the Appleton City Cemetery.
Gary Bruce Kurrasch was born in Appleton on June 13, 1946, to parents Leonard and Dolores (Rodeen) Kurrasch. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church. Gary was raised in Appleton and graduated from Appleton High School in 1964. He received a degree in auto body repair from Austin Technical Institute.
In September of 1966 he entered the US Army where he specialized in electronics. He served in the United States and in Germany. In his service career he received the National Defense Service Award, the Good Conduct Medal, and the sharpshooter certificate for the M-14. He was honorably discharged from service in September of 1969.
Gary lived in rural Monticello. He had worked for Sun Electronics, Delgaard Tools and NAPA Stores. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 24 years of service in 2008. Gary found great enjoyment repairing and refurbishing almost anything-especially if it had a motor, a cord, or an engine. He also enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, nature, the outdoors, hunting, old cars, music, playing his guitar, flea markets and garage sales.
Gary died on Thursday, October 24th, 2013, at CentraCare Extended Care in Monticello. He had attained 67 years, 4 months, and 11 days of age.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth (Jonah) DeLoach of Sarasota, FL; grandson, Waylon DeLoach; his sister, Phyllis (Philip) Skurdahl of Madison; two nieces: Berit (Tom) Spors and Ilsa (Jake) Sieg; four great-nieces: Elin Spors, and Audrey, Callie and Gertie Sieg; aunts, uncles, cousins, special friend, Drew (Ruth) Pederson, of Maple Grove, and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
