Monticello residential building permit activity shows increase from last year

Monticello residential building permit numbers have increased significantly when compared with city permits issued during the same period a year ago.
New construction house permit numbers through Nov. 1 stand at 57 permits issued, stated Community Development Director Angela Schumann in a Monticello Planning Commission report slated for presentation Tuesday night during a commission meeting.
The permits had a valuation of $8.74 million, with an average home price of $153,398. In comparison, the city issued 18 new construction home permits over the same period in 2012, Schumann stated in a monthly report.
Commercial and industrial building permits issued through Nov. 1 had a total valuation of approximately, $3 million.
According to Schumann, the larger projects in the current valuation total include Cornerstone Chevrolet, Dollar Tree and Marshall’s.
Last year through the same period, permit valuation was approximately $2 million. Total city building permits currently stand at 632 permits valued at $14.4 million. A year ago, permits totaled 621 with a valuation of $11.9 million, Schumann reported.
