Fourth annual Frostbite Challenge will feature fishing, frosty fun

Monticello’s annual community Frostbite Challenge celebration will be held Jan. 6 to Jan. 12, 2014.

This celebration includes a fishing contest on Pelican Lake with prizes, pond hockey tournament, vintage snowmobile show and swap meet, snow golfing, a Medallion Hunt and more.

According to Marcy Anderson, Monticello Chamber of Industry & Commerce executive director, Mother Nature has supplied event organizers with ideal ice conditions and plenty of snow for all planned events.

“The growth in events, sponsors and support for this year’s Frostbite Challewnge is overwhelming.,” Anderson said. “We’ve seen an out-pouring of added sponsors which has allowed us to give them a larger platform to showcase their products and business.”

One Frostbite Challenge medallion clue will released each day this week on the Monticello Times website (www.monticellotimes.com) and on the Frostbite Challenge website. (www.frostbitechallene.org)
The first clue will be posted Monday, Jan. 6. The medallion hunt grant prize includes a 30-inch HDTV, TDS Telecom blanket and hat.

The Monticello Frostbite Challenge 2014 Pond Hockey Tournament kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, and runs until  5 p.m. at Fourth Street Park in Monticello. The cost is $150 per team of four to six people and participants must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Monticello Frostbite Challenge 2014  Snow Golfing Open starts at noon at River City Extreme. Cost is $25 for a team of two.

New this year is the Frostbite Challenge Vintage Snowmobile Show and Swap Meet, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, next to Moon Motorsports. A round-trip vintage snowmobile run starts a noon and runs until 2 p.m.

You must be 18 years or older to purchase a ticket or win a prize. Bring your own bait; entered fish must be alive and fresh and there is one line allowed per ticket. Decision of judges is final, state game and fish laws apply, no clams, and no shelters will be allowed the contest area.
