Monticello’s first-ever winter block party is Saturday, Feb. 22

Don’t let winter’s cold and snow get you down! On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Monticello Community Center (MCC) and the Friends of Bertram Chain of Lakes will be hosting the city’s first-ever Winter Block Party.

The fun kicks off with the Friends of Bertram Snow Sculpture Contest on MCC’s front lawn.

Pre-registered groups have two hours to build their unique sculptures before judging begins at 2 p.m. Cash prizes provided by the Friends will be awarded to the top 3 sculptures: $100 for First Place, $75 for Second Place, and $50 for Third Place. Registration is required for the snow sculpture contest.

As the sculptors work, there will be face painting with the Monticello Royalty, balloon creations with the Clown Arounds, games, free lunch, and a snowman building contest.

The Friends of Bertram will award a $25 MCC gift card for the best snowman. Following the snow sculpture judging, everyone can warm up to a free showing of Despicable Me 2 on the big screen in MCC’s Mississippi Room.

The Monticello Parks Department will fill snow sculpture bins as part of the event preparations, according to information released in the Jan. 27 edition of the Council Connection, an online update of current and on-going projects of interest that’s provided to city council members.

For more information about the Winter Block Party or to register for the Snow Sculpture Contest, please call the Monticello Community Center at 763-295-2954.
