CentraCare Health – Monticello’s birth center is now open to provide labor, delivery and newborn care. An advance open house celebrating the event was held Thursday, Feb. 27.
The public was able to meet with physicians, talk with nurses and tour the birth center as well as enjoy refreshments before a short program featuring Dr. Terry Pladson (CentraCare CEO), Dr. Tim Olson, Dr. Joe Mahoney, Mary Ellen Wells and Sheldon Johnson, New River Medical Center Board of Directors chairman.
On April 1, 2013, New River Medical Center officially joined CentraCare Health and became CentraCare Health-Monticello to provide enhanced health care services to a number of surrounding communities. CentraCare’s commitments to the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital District included reopening an obstetrics and birth center no later than the spring of 2014.
The birth center offers moms and their families a new, private, serene and contemporary environment to welcome their babies. In addition, the Birth Center provides family amenities such as comfortable sofa beds for dads, refrigerators in each room and a dedicated family room to offer comfort and convenience for relatives and friends who visit to support the new mother and baby.
Care at the birth center is provided by the OB/GYN physicians, family medicine physicians and pediatricians from the Monticello Clinic and Albertville-St. Michael Clinic. Physician anesthesia coverage is also available.
