Norita Soltau

Norita Rita Soltau, age 87 of Monticello, MN, passed away at Ridgeview Medical Center of Waconia on Monday, March 17, 2014.
Visitation Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E. Broadway, Monticello. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10:30 AM with one hour of further visitation prior at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 E. 7th Street, Monticello. Fr. Tony VanderLoop is officiating. Interment at St. Henrys Cemetery of Monticello. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Rita was born September 1, 1926, in St. Michael, MN to Math and Emma Barthel. She attended St. Michael Catholic School, then moved to Buffalo and attended Catholic School there, graduating from Buffalo High School. Rita eventually met Clifford Soltau and they were wed on May 20, 1948, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Monticello American Legion Auxiliary, card clubs, and did volunteer work, as well. She loved going to the casino and playing Bingo. She enjoyed canning vegetables and fruit, and she liked to pick berries as long as her back would hold out. Rita was employed by Johnson Department Store and continued working there for 22 years. She also worked at Maus Foods and Target doing food demonstrations. She loved being around people and socializing.
She is survived by her children Steven (Karen) Soltau of Monticello, MN, Patricia (Tahir) Khan of Chanhassen, MN, Shelley (Peter) Osowski of Chaska, MN, Scott (Jeannie) Soltau of Big Lake, MN; sister Clare Elliott of Buffalo, MN; brother Ronald (Rose) Barthel of Madison, SD; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Rita was preceded in death by her dear loving husband Cliff; brother Harvey (Beverly); sister Harriet (Elwood) Carlson; parents Math and Emma Barthel; and stepfather Tom Antil.
