Mary M. Buckingham, 87, long-time resident of Monticello, died peacefully March 28, 2014.
Mary is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lyle Buckingham; her sons, Jim (Sherri) and Bill (Anne); daughters, Mary Jo (Paul) and Michele (Dan) and daughter-in-law, Linda (Ralph). Her second son John preceded her in death in 1995. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mary was best known for her creativity – developing her own patterns in knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. During the height of church bazaars, many a lady had a cross-stitched gingham apron made by Mary. For ten years, she owned the yarn store, “Bits ‘n Things,” where she also taught knitting and crocheting classes. She was an active volunteer for many years in our public schools and local parish.
