The Monticello Community Band has a special treat in store for outdoor music lovers during the four-day run of Riverfest.
The band will perform twice during the event, but in separate Monticello city parks.
First up is a 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10 performance at Pioneer Park. The band will also play at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12 in Ellison Park as part of the Riverside Arts in the Park. The second performance is in Ellison Park.
According to longtime band member and director David Thielman, The Monticello Community Band is made up of members from several communities around Monticello.
The band is open to all ages and anyone who enjoys playing an instrument. The band perform about a dozen concerts during the summer months.
A former band director of 23 years, Thielman retired from teaching shortly the Monticello High School Marching Band appeared in the 1983 Tournament of Roses Parade. He started Gateway Music Festivals & Tours in 1985, and over the years, the company blossomed from operating competitive regional music festivals to managing major performance events and music tours world wide.
Here is the band’s remaining schedule, not including the two Monticello Riverfest performances: Saturday, July 22, Ellison Park Gazebo; 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, Ellison Park Gazebo; 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, Otter Creek Park, Monticello and 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Monticello Senior Center’s Pie and Ice Cream Social.
