Motorists in Monticello will find quick access to westbound Interstate 94 beginning today (Thursday, July 17) as the ramp and all lanes from northbound Highway 25 to westbound I-94 are now open.
The ramp and turn lane, which were closed May 29 while crews reconstructed the ramp and installed an improved signal system, were re-opened at 11:45 this morning, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported in a news release.
Motorists are reminded that the new ramp from Highway 25 to westbound I-94, adjacent lanes and merge point are within the I-94 Monticello project’s work zone, and that the new ramp merges into I-94 lanes with a 55 mph speed limit.
Other traffic changes on I-94 in Monticello include:
· All lanes of I-94 between County Road 18 and Highway 25 are switched to narrow, temporary lanes with a reduced 55 mph speed limit through mid-September.
· The ramp from westbound I-94 to Highway 25 is closed through late July. A signed detour directs motorists to exit at County Road 18.
· Both ramps from Highway 25 to eastbound I-94 will remain closed through mid-September.
The closures are part of a larger project to reconstruct and improve more than two miles of I-94 in Monticello. When complete in fall 2014, the project will improve traffic flow and roadway efficiency by reconstructing the roadway, adding a new auxiliary lane along westbound I-94 between County Road 18 and Highway 25, reconfiguring the ramps from Highway 25 to eastbound I-94, upgrading signal systems and improving drainage in the area.
