Motorists traveling Interstate 94 in Monticello will experience a series of lane and ramp changes as temporary lanes through the work zone switch from the eastbound side of the road to the westbound side July 23-26.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, crews switched both lanes of westbound I-94 from the east side to the west side of the road, and the ramp from westbound I-94 to Highway 25 was scheduled to open permanently, the Minnesota Department of Transportation stated in a news release.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, crews will switch both lanes of eastbound I-94 from the east side to the west side of the road, and the ramp from eastbound I-94 to Highway 25 will close until mid-Sept.
After the changes, motorists travelling I-94 in Monticello can expect the following:
· All lanes of I-94 between County Road 18 and Highway 25 will be switched to narrow, temporary lanes with a reduced 55 mph speed limit through late September.
· The ramps at westbound I-94/Highway 25 will permanently open.
· All ramps at eastbound I-94/Highway 25 will be closed until further notice.
· The ramp from County Road 18 to westbound I-94 will remain closed through late September.
The closures are part of a project to reconstruct and improve more than two miles of I-94 in Monticello. When complete in fall 2014, the project will improve traffic flow, safety and efficiency on I-94 and local roads. The project will add a new auxiliary lane along westbound I-94 between County Road 18 and Highway 25, reconfigure the ramps at eastbound I-94/Highway 25, upgrade signal systems and improve drainage in the area.
