Willard Anderson

Willard Curtiss Anderson, 88 of Monticello, MN passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2014 after a short illness.
Willard was born to Curtiss and Vera Anderson on July 21, 1926 in Enfield, MN. He was raised in Monticello, MN where he lived and called home. Willie graduated from Monticello High School in 1943 where he lettered nine times in sports (three letters in football as a quarterback, three times in basketball as a guard and three times in baseball as shortstop). He later played one year of minor baseball in Fargo, N.D. Willie enlisted in the service from 1944-1946 (Navy) as a quartermaster. After the service Willie worked in the agricultural business, the insurance industry and the United States Postal Service (his favorite career). Willie had a heart of gold and knew everyone. He loved people and people loved him. On June 26, 1948 Willie married Marilyn (Skjold), the love of his life. Willie and Marilyn had two children who he loved unconditionally. Willie was a 68 year member of the American Legion and a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Willie loved the outdoors, was an avid fishermen, hunter and sports enthusiast. Many of his fond memories were spent with his son and grandson enjoying these activities. Willie rarely missed (on TV) a MN Twins or Golden Gophers game.
Willie leaves behind his children Tim (Carol) Anderson of Big Lake and Merrilee (Dale) Schwanz of Brooklyn Park as well as his three grandchildren Ben (Jen) Anderson of Becker, Amy (Darrin) Lundeen of New Hope and Katie Anderson of Fargo, N.D.; three great-grandchildren Ethan, Logan and Lily plus all of his dear friends who have turned into family for Willie.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents and wife who will be overjoyed to be reunited with him again.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 Broadway E. in Monticello from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 9225 Jason Ave. NE in Monticello.
