James Harlan Odden

James Harlan Odden, age 89 of Big Lake, passed away at Centra Care Health of Monticello on Wednesday August 6, 2014.
Visitation Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 10-11 a.m. at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sherri Sandoz officiating. Interment Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11:45 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery of Minneapolis. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
James was born on July 18, 1925 in Finley, ND to Martin and Agnes (Petterson) Odden. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II with the 5th Division, serving on Iwo Jima. He worked as an electrician for FMC in Minneapolis for 34 years. He lived in the Monticello and Big Lake area for most of his life. James enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Monticello VFW and the Monticello American Legion.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Agnes; wives Gladys and Hazel; loving companion Gladys Brown; infant brother Forest; sisters Murrell Brooks and Connie Schroeder; step-daughter Kathy Peterson and daughter-in-law Patty Odden.
He is survived by his children David (Peggy) Simonson, Jane (Alan) Humphrey, Mary Odden, James Scott (Laurie) Odden, Curtis (Susan) Odden, David Kevin (Marylou) Odden, Keith Odden, Karen (David) Holtan, Kimberly Waverek, Kent Odden; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Arthur Odden; and three sisters Barbara Talman, Gail Lindemann and Doris Peterson.
