Scott Walters, age 58, Duarte CA, formerly of Monticello, died Thursday morning, March 9, 2017.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 18, 2017, the visitation will start at 1 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m., at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 413 East 3rd Street, Monticello, with Pastor Darren Green officiating.
Scott Steven Walters was born on July 12, 1958 in Monticello to Perry Lee Walters and Sondra (Wilken) Walters. He grew up in the Monticello area where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and graduated from Monticello High School in 1976. He followed his father’s footsteps and pursued a career in carpentry where he started his own company, Scott Walters Construction. He then moved to Duarte, CA. where he married Lisa Lucero-Walters and had two children, daughter Sunny Walters and son Perry Walters. He most recently continued to run his company Scott Walters Construction out in California with his younger brother Christopher Walters, until he was unable to work after being diagnosed eight months ago with pancreatic cancer. He routinely made trips back to Monticello with his family to develop the Walters Wetland Bank on the same farm land he and his family grew up on in Monticello.
He had a passion for guitar, and produced his own album entitled “Family and Friends”, a compilation of songs written and played by Scott, with inspiration from his family and his love for the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Lucero-Walters; daughter, Sunny Walters; son, Perry Walters; mother, Sondra Walters, Monticello; three brothers, Michael (Debbie) Walters of Coon Rapids, Christopher (Marcia) Walters of Monrovia, CA; Mark (Barb) Walters of Monticello; sister, Brenda (Jerry) Havel of Grand Rapids, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father, Perry Lee Walters and sister, Vicki Lee (Walters) Palmer.
