BREAKING: Monticello School Board calls special meeting to discuss superintendent search

The Monticello School Board will meet in a special session tonight (Monday, July 17) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to review and discuss an interim superintendent search proposal.

The Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) has been retained by District 882 to serve as a consultant in this process.

Tonight’s meeting will also include a discussion of the next steps in the interim superintendent hiring process.

The Monticello School Board meeting will be held in the Monticello Middle School Board room.

Current superintendent Jim Johnson will be leaving the district next month.

Last week, Monticello School Board members acted to accept Johnson’s resignation, after receiving written notification that Johnson intended to retire.

Johnson announced in a letter to school district employees July 6 that he would be stepping down as the superintendent of the Monticello School District.

Johnson has been the superintendent of the district for 12 years, and has worked in the district for 18 years.

He has accepted a position as associate professor at St. Cloud State University in the Department of Educational Administration. He starts on Aug. 15.

The school board voted unanimously 5-0 to accept accept a resignation from Johnson and pursue a separation agreement with him.

The Monticello Times is currently working to get additional information about the purpose of tonight’s meeting and Johnson’s status with the district, as well as an update on the separation agreement that is being pursued by the school board.
