Monticello Nuclear Plant to simulate an emergency situation Tuesday

According to a release from The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, they, along with other state and county agencies, will respond to a simulated Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant emergency situation on Tuesday, July 25th. The department of public safety says that residents near the plant should not be alarmed.

The simulated drill is meant to test the capabilities of federal, state and local agencies in the event of an emergency. A variety of field activities will take place in proximity to the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant in both Sherburne and Wright Counties.

The various groups that will take part in the exercise include: Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Xcel Energy, Minnesota departments of: Agriculture, Education, Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board, Health, Human Services, Military Affairs, Natural Resources, Pollution Control, and Transportation. Sherburne and Wright Counties, as well as volunteer agencies will also be involved with the drill.
