Embrace the Dog Days of Summer and come to the center for a tasty good time on Monday, August 28. We will be grilling hotdogs on the outdoor patio area by the community center Mississippi Room.
The meal is at noon and you can choose to sit inside or outdoors. This classic summer meal will also include beans, potato chips, watermelon, and dessert. The cost is just $3 per person and people do have to sign up in advance and can do so by calling us at 763-295-2000.
There is another special senior center dinner this month that we hope to see you at. Bring a dish of food to share and come to the noon potluck dinner on Wednesday, August 16. This is the day that August birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated and everyone is invited. People will have the opportunity to play bingo after dinner.
Lots of grandparents invited their grandkids to come and play bingo at the center last week. 80-85 people of all ages had a really good time! We have another opportunity for you to spend time with your grandkids. Invite them to come and watch “Smurfs: The Lost Village” on the community center’s big screen on Monday, August 21 at 1 p.m. This movie was just released on DVD in mid-July and is rated PG. Popcorn and pop will be served and there is no charge.
A senior center Jam Session will be held in the community center Mississippi Room, on Sunday, August 13 from noon to 3 p.m. This is for musicians or anyone who wants to spend time with friends and listen to some good “Minnesota Back Porch” country music. Please note that there will not be a Jam Session on August 22, so there is only one Jam Session this month.
The senior center Book Club meets monthly to discuss the book they read and to pick up the new one. The group will meet on Thursday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m. and the book they will be discussing is, “The Grapes of Wrath.” New members are welcome. If you are at all interested in the Book Club, please come to this meeting and check it out.
If you are interested in helping keep the streets of Monticello looking even better, please consider signing up for our second Adopt-A-Highway litter pick up of this year. Volunteers will meet in the senior center on Wednesday, August 16 at 9 a.m. and car pool to the starting points. Each person walks approximately one mile and will be provided with a safety vest, gloves and garbage bags. Please call us at 763-295-2000 if you can help.
If you are interested in photography, you may want to come to the next senior center Photo Club meeting. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 10 at 10 a.m. and people with all experience levels are welcome.
