The city of Monticello will use a general obligation bond to pay a $5.75 million settlement with FiberNet bondholders who filed a class action suit against the city. A final settlement hearing in the FiberNet bondholder lawsuit saga was held Friday, Sept. 12, in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday morning that two people were killed in a Sunday afternoon accident in the area of County Road 39 and 107th Street N.E. Capt. Todd Hoffman said a news release with details of the accident would be released later today. Fire Chief Steve Joerg reported that Monticello Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon and that the head-on collision involved a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer and a car. Joerg also confirmed two on-scene fatalities. The Monticello Times will update this breaking story when more information is released.
